Those who love shopping will find in Vietnam a great opportunity to unleash their passion. The multiple street markets, the private houses that serve as stores, and the large shopping areas will make the visitor find all kinds of products.
The first thing to know is that the shopping centers are designed for tourists and people with money, so shopping for these large areas will not be a great savings, quite the opposite.
But in street markets we can buy virtually anything we look for. It is practically an obligation to haggle or “ask for the discount”. The price will be cheaper if we buy in Dongs than if we pay with Euros or with a credit card.
Special mention deserves counterfeits or replicas of almost any product on the market, clothing and handbags from leading brands, which in many cases will not be visible and for which we will have to ask the clerk.
The Dong Xuan Market in Hanoi: It is the largest covered market in Hanoi, located in the center of the city. In this market you can buy practically everything, from animals to food, clothing and many souvenirs. Probably due to being foreigners they ask for more money, so you do not have to be shy when it comes to bargaining.
Dan Sinh Market of the Vietnam War: Located in Ho Chi Minh or Saigon, it is probably one of the most curious markets in Vietnam. There they sell surplus of the Vietnam War, from construction materials and plumbing to clothing and accessories from both sides. But you should know that most articles will be imitations, therefore, be careful when you pay for it.
The silk district: Located about 10 km southeast of Hanoi, you can find the best silk in all of Vietnam. Here you will have more than 100 stores with a craft tradition of more than a century.
